Frequently Asked Questions

Living on campus comes with lots of excitement鈥攁nd naturally, plenty of questions. To help you feel prepared and informed, we鈥檝e put together answers to the most common questions students ask about Residential Life. Whether you're getting ready to move in or just exploring your options, this guide is here to help.

How much does it cost to live on campus?

The room rates for the 2026-2027 Academic Year are:

All Standard Rooms (doubles, triples, and quads)
Semester Rate: $4,650
Academic Year: $9,300

All Singles (design singles)
Semester Rate: $4,900
Academic Year: $9,800

All Super Singles (doubles as singles)
Semester Rate: $5,650
Academic Year: $11,300

When do the residential halls open, and can I move in early?

Fall Semester

When do I move in for the fall semester?
Fall Move-In typically happens the weekend before the Labor Day holiday. Specific dates will be posted on the website by August 1.  

Can I move in early?
Students with a University affiliation (RAs, athletes, student leaders, etc.) may move in early at the request of their sponsoring department for no extra charge. Students who need to return early due to travel plans or other non-University-related reasons may move in up to three (3) days early for a cost of $40/day.    

Spring Semester

When do I move in for the spring semester? 
Spring Move-In typically happens the weekend before the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. Specific dates will be posted on the website by January 1.  

Can I move in early?
Students with a University affiliation (RAs, athletes, student leaders, etc.) may move in early at the request of their sponsoring department for no extra charge. Students who need to return early due to travel plans or other non-University-related reasons may move in up to three (3) days early for a cost of $40/day.    

Can I stay in my room during breaks?

The residence halls close for Thanksgiving, Winter, and Summer Break. Students who anticipate needing to live on campus during break periods should sign up for 12-Month/Year-Round Housing. Students who live in this community will be placed in the Apartments Complex or New Hall so they have access to a full kitchen year-round.  

Students who do not live in 12-Month/Year-Round Housing may apply for housing during the break periods, but they are not guaranteed housing and they may be required to move to another space for breaks. 

What is the housing selection process?

How do I pick my room for next year?   
The room selection process takes place every spring in late March/early April. The Housing Selection Guide, which contains specific dates and details about housing selection, will be made available on the website and in hard copy in late February.       

Can I get a single?  
There are a select number of design singles (rooms intended and furnished for one person) and 鈥渟uper singles鈥 (rooms intended and furnished for two people where only one person lives) available for students. Students who need reasonable accommodation in housing must begin this process by registering and requesting accommodation through Disability Services or their LDP Advisor at sas@westfield.ma.edu or 413-572-8377. Check the housing selection guide for important deadlines.   

What if I don鈥檛 like the room I select?
Room waiting lists for students who selected housing for the 2024-2025 Academic Year will open after the housing selection process has concluded. Students are able to sign up for multiple waiting lists. These lists will be reviewed over the summer as space becomes available. We are unable to guarantee that we will be able to accommodate all students on the lists.    

Can I be a Resident Assistant?

How do I become an RA?
RAs are selected twice a year, typically in October/November for a few openings in the spring semester and a larger process in February/March for the upcoming fall semester. 

What do I get in exchange for being an RA?
The compensation for the Resident Assistant position is full reimbursement of a single room, reimbursement for a Nestor Unlimited meal plan, and a parking decal.

Can I change rooms?

Students interested in a room change must complete a Room Change Application in their . The Room Change Application will go live the third week of each semester. For additional information, students should contact their Hall Director. For a list of Hall Directors, please visit our staff directory.   

Do you offer graduate and/or family housing on campus?

Graduate student housing is available in Welch Hall in the Apartments Complex. Please contact Residential Life directly (housing@westfield.ma.edu or 413-572-5402) if you are a graduate student seeking housing.

We do not currently offer family housing.

How do I request housing accommodations if I have a disability?

Students who need reasonable accommodation in housing must begin this process by registering and requesting accommodation through Student Accessibility Services or their LDP Advisor at sas@westfield.ma.edu or 413-572-8377.
