Counseling Center

How do I schedule a counseling appointment?

Students interested in making an appointment can walk into the Counseling Center's main office (located on the second floor of Scanlon Hall) and make an appointment in-person, call the Counseling Center's main number at 413-572-5790, or email us at counseling@westfield.ma.edu

Are counseling services free and confidential?

All counseling sessions are strictly confidential and free for students. Information may not be released without the written permission of the student, unless there is an immediate safety concern.

What types of concerns can the Counseling Center help with?

The Counseling Center supports students struggling with a wide range of concerns including stress, anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, family concerns, adjusting to college life, loneliness, identity struggles, and substance use. We encourage students to reach out if something is impacting your well-being; we're here to help.

What should I do if I'm experiencing a mental health emergency?
  • During office hours (9 a.m.–5 p.m., Monday–Friday), immediate crisis counseling is available for mental health emergencies. Contact the Counseling Center at 413-572-5790
  • If you are experiencing a mental health emergency after hours, please contact your RA, RD, or University Police at 413-572-5262
  • Students can also  and use your ²ÝÁñÊÓƵ email for free, anonymous peer support and a 24/7 clinical helpline. To find the helpline number in the app, tap the square icon in the top right corner. At the dropdown menu, tap “Clinical Helpline.â€
What if I'm unsure whether counseling is right for me?

This is a normal and common feeling for many people! You don't need to have clear goals or feel 100% certainty before your first session. The initial appointment will give you a chance to see how it feels to talk to someone and provide an opportunity to explore any questions/concerns you have. There's no requirement to participate in counseling if it doesn't feel like the right fit. Students also have the option at any point to request to work with another counselor.
