College Life in Decatur

Decatur is a historic city with a small-town feel located just six miles from downtown Atlanta. With a population of about 25,000, Decatur is known as a community of “homes, schools and places of worship." The Agnes Scott campus is within easy walking distance to restaurants, shops, music venues and the MARTA station (Atlanta’s public transportation system).

Enjoy all Atlanta has to Offer

As the urban center of the Southeast, Atlanta offers Agnes Scott students world-class arts and cultural attractions, sporting events, thriving commerce and an international airport – all of them easy to get to by car or public transportation. From the National Center for Civil and Human Rights to Georgia Aquarium to the Atlanta Zoo, our students have endless possibilities to pursue their interests and discover new ones.

Atlanta is also home to a large number of colleges. While Agnes Scott students enjoy individual attention on our campus, they also have access to cross-registration and social events with our neighboring colleges such as Emory University, Georgia Tech, Georgia State and the Atlanta University Center, just to name a few.

Internships and Job Opportunities

Another benefit to living near Atlanta is the multitude of experiential, hands-on opportunities to learn beyond Agnes Scott’s campus. Companies like Delta Airlines, Home Depot and Coca-Cola are based in Atlanta. Our students can participate in exciting internships while living on campus and get a head start on their job search before graduation.

The Music Scene

Just a short walk from campus, Agnes Scott students can listen to famous and up-and-coming singer/songwriters at Eddie’s Attic or have a picnic at one of Decatur’s concerts on the square. Jennifer Nettles ’97, H'18 of Sugarland performed at Eddie’s Attic during her time at Agnes Scott. Only a short drive away, Atlanta offers music venues to suit every taste and is especially well known for its hip-hop scene.

Weather in the South

One of the best things about living in Georgia is the weather. With an average high of 52°F (11°C) in January and 89°F (32°C) in July, Georgia allows our students to experience all four seasons while still enjoying plenty of study time outdoors on our beautiful quad.
